ABOUT THE WIMMERA KART CLUB

THE EARLY YEARS

The Wimmera Club was first formed as the Horsham Go-Kart Club in 1968, with members racing simple homemade machines with Victa motors. The location of the club was at the Dooen Recreation Reserve, north of Horsham where the track is still located today.

A decision was made by the committee during the 80’s to consolidate the club and a name change was made – to the Wimmera Kart Racing Club. Also during the mid 80’s the track was re-designed and a hot-mix surface applied. In the early days the club had a membership totalling in excess of 100, with up to 60 racing competitively throughout the state.

LOCATION

The Club is located in Horsham which is on the banks of the Wimmera River, some 300km north-west of Melbourne, and 450km south-east of Adelaide on the Western Highway. Horsham, the capital of the productive and efficient rural region of western Victoria know as the Wimmera.

HORSHAM
