The Cobden go-kart track is the place to be this weekend, with an action-packed program set to thrill spectators of all ages.

The South West Kart Club will host the third round of the Victorian Country Series over the weekend, with a practice session on Saturday before Sunday’s full day of racing.

According to club member Chris Place more than 200 competitors will contest the 14 classes.

“We will run two heats and a final in each class, and some classes have attracted up to 30 entries,” Place said.

“This will be a great weekend of racing and spectators can expect some close results.”

With classes ranging from the midgets (for drivers as young as seven) through to the over 40s, big crowds are expected through the gates over the weekend.

The event has attracted entries from as far as South Australia and the Melbourne metro area, however, several local competitors will also be seen in action.

“We have some great local drivers who are doing well in the current series,” Place said.

Some of the names to look for include Jack Nolan and Thomas Prascvic in the midgets and Luke Walker in junior national heavy.

In the Junior national light division, Melbourne’s Jake Klein will test local racer Jarrod Rethus.

The Clubman light will see the return of Colac’s Damian Stevens who is a former state champion in the junior classes.

Clubman heavy is expected to be a four way battle between Swan Hill’s Brendan McGinniskin, Scott King of Portland and South West Kart Club members Michael Giest and Braden Place.

Club president Bevan Walker, who won the clubman over 40 event last year, will attempt to cross the line ahead of Horsham’s Leon Forest who won the series last year in this division.

Racing starts at 9am and a canteen will be open for refreshments.
A roast meal will be available at the track on Saturday night.
