Horsham Wimmera Kart Racing Club commences its new racing season at Dooen's Wimmera Kartway this weekend with round one of the Country Series featuring competitors from country Victorian clubs in more than 200 races.

Horsham young gun Brayden "Buddy" Souter is the club's only junior racer at present and is hoping to see more Wimmera children join him in the sport. Buddy's dad Shane said other clubs had as many as 10 youngsters in the junior "midget" class and with rules restricting practice sessions to racing classes, Buddy was forced to practice on his own.

"The only time he gets to compete against his age group is during these sort of inter-club events," Shane said.

Buddy is hoping to make an impression in his new Tony Kart loaned to him by Kelvin and Kylie Crane of Horsham. Spectator entry is free for Saturday's practice sessions and Sunday's racing, where club members will be on-hand to discuss participation in the sport.
